Bill to finance solar projects on closed landfills advances out of committee

Chairman Dickey presented House Bill 1133, which would authorize the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority to finance solar projects on municipal and county closed landfills. Dickey said the proposal is modeled on programs in neighboring states and would be limited to local government‑owned closed landfills and brownfields; he said Georgia has about 35 closed landfills and that installing solar on those sites costs more than on flat cropland, so low‑interest loans would help make those projects viable while returning long‑term revenue to local governments.
Representative Octane moved to call the question and a motion to pass was made and seconded. The committee voted to advance the bill; Chairman Dickey thanked members for their consideration.
