Tuscaloosa City council approved a series of consent items that will move utility, maintenance and minor capital work forward across the city.
The council authorized the mayor to execute a utility permit for the Mercedes Phase 3 project, which includes replacing two segments of sewer force main — one near Exit 79/US 11/University Boulevard and another at the Donner Binns Boulevard ramp — and work within the interstate right-of-way. Speaker 2 said the project is funded through an ADEM SRO (administration) grant, requires ALDOT and ADEM approvals before bidding, and “we expect to go to bids in the spring, expect construction to start in the summer, and be finished before the end of the year.” The permit motion was moved and approved by voice vote.
The council also approved a professional-services contract with Thornton, Musso & Bellman for engineering and services tied to two lift stations on the same force main (Lift Station 39 at Mercedes and Lift Station 41 at the US 11 exit). Speaker 2 said the city ran a pilot test with vendor Evoqua at those stations and proposes to continue with the vendor for the remainder of the fiscal year; the motion passed by voice vote.
A minor public-works contract with ZL Builders was approved to construct a 2.5-foot wing wall inside the dining hall of the Mercedes-Benz Amphitheater to screen kitchen equipment; Speaker 5 cited a contract cost of $3,500 funded from the River District repairs and maintenance budget.
The council approved a $1,300 amendment to add two user seats to the city’s PhotoShelter photo/video storage account for the remainder of the contract year; the change — Speaker 7 said — is charged to outside services. The body also approved a renewal/amendment to the Central Square (TriTech) enterprise asset-management maintenance contract; city staff said the amendment corrects previously unchecked contract items and carries no additional dollars.
Each of the items was adopted by voice vote with motions made and seconded during the meeting. The council adjourned after completing the listed agenda items.
