The Brown County Commission approved a resolution to hire IMA for federally mandated bridge reinspections and carried votes on several routine contracts and agreements during its meeting.
Dirk Rogers, highway superintendent, told the commission the reinspection contract would keep the county in compliance with federal bridge standards and “keep all of our bridge money eligible,” and recommended hiring IMA to perform inspections and monitoring. Commissioners then approved the resolution by voice vote; the motion was made by Luis and seconded by Dennard.
The commission also voted to approve and authorize the chairman to sign an intergovernmental agreement with the South Dakota Public Insurance Alliance. The motion to approve that agreement was made by Gage and seconded by Dennard and carried by voice vote.
In other business, the commission approved a 2026 monitoring and consultant services contract for landfill compliance with Houston Engineering. Dinger moved the contract approval; Weitz seconded the motion, which passed by voice vote. The board also acknowledged a packet of 2025 corrections to landfill charge accounts; a motion to acknowledge the corrections was carried.
Votes at a glance - Approve agenda as amended (remove consent item f): carried (voice). - IGA with South Dakota Public Insurance Alliance: motion by Gage; second by Dennard; carried (voice). - Houston Engineering contract for 2026 landfill monitoring: motion by Dinger; second by Weitz; carried (voice). - Acknowledge 2025 landfill charge-account corrections: motion by Dennard; carried (voice). - Bridge reinspection resolution (hire IMA for inspections): motion by Luis; second by Dennard; carried (voice). - Consent calendar items (minutes, claims, payroll, leases, landfill change report): carried (multiple motions recorded in minutes). - Executive session for personnel: motion carried; returned with no action as a result.
The meeting record shows routine, procedural approvals typical of a county commission meeting; most votes were taken by voice without roll-call tallies included in the transcript. The commission adjourned after returning from executive session.
The next meeting or follow-up items were not scheduled in the transcript beyond references to a possible return to discuss load limits next Tuesday.
