GIS-based building-coverage map shows where lots exceed 25% coverage

Community development staff and GIS consultants presented a demonstration building-coverage map that uses automated detection of building footprints to summarize lot coverage across the city.
"They have through artificial intelligence, as I've been told, helped us create this map by locating just the buildings on the property," Administrator Mary said. Staff emphasized the map shows building (not total impervious) coverage and was developed to support potential amendments to lot-coverage policy and building-coverage ordinances.
Slides highlighted West Side and East Side patterns: the median building coverage across the city is about 16 percent; several West Side lots exceed 25 percent and Rosebud Court and similar smaller‑lot areas show the highest concentrations of lots above 25 percent (and far fewer above 35 percent). Staff said these visualizations will support analysis for any future coverage-related zoning amendments.
Staff invited questions and said they will continue refining the analysis.
