Summary
At its Feb. 10 meeting the Richland County Rules and Appointments Committee elected Gretchen Cooper chair, approved a slate of appointments to local boards after interviews in executive session, and set a March 3 full-council notice with an April 3 application deadline for upcoming vacancies.
The Richland County Rules and Appointments Committee on Feb. 10 elected Gretchen Cooper as its chair and approved a series of board appointments following interviews held in executive session.
After calling the meeting to order and confirming a quorum, the committee approved minutes from Nov. 18 and adopted an amended agenda that deferred several interviews and recorded one withdrawal. The chair explained changes that renumbered agenda items so interviews and appointments would flow efficiently.
The committee then moved into executive session to interview candidates for the Board of Assessment Appeals, the Board of Zoning Appeals, the Central Midlands Council of Governments, the Lexington Richland Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council and the Richland Memorial Hospital board. After returning to open session the panel approved appointments by roll call votes: incumbent Tasha Thompson to the Board of Assessment Appeals; Lashawn Landy to the Board of Zoning Appeals; Andrew Tolleson to the Central Midlands Council of Governments; and two candidates (Rickenbacker and Nikki Wooten) for the Lexington Richland Alcohol & Drug Abuse Council. All those appointments passed with affirmative roll-call votes by the three members recorded on the dais.
Committee members praised an increase in high-quality applicants and thanked clerk staff for outreach and recordkeeping. The committee unanimously approved a motion to forward vacancy notifications to full council for the March 3 meeting; the chair said ads will post March 3 and applications will be due April 3.
The committee adjourned at the end of the session. The appointments now proceed to the bodies or administrative processes that complete seating of new members.
