Commissioner Stoddard updated the Public Arts Commission on preparations for the Cathedral City Festival of the Arts, reporting that 24 artists had applied and been accepted so far and that most requested 10-by-10 booth space. She said the event has capacity for roughly 32–33 10-by-10 spaces and encouraged commissioners to help with outreach to recruit additional artists and to re-promote the application deadline.
Logistics are largely in place: organizers have assigned booth numbers, arranged load-in and parking, planned a music program and a children’s play area organized by Scrap Gallery and the Desert Recreation District, and booked food trucks. Stoddard said organizers will require evidence of one-day liability insurance from vendors and are preparing a follow-up workflow in the event system to communicate next steps to accepted artists.
Commissioners discussed a potential scheduling complication: a separate march or rally was expected nearby on the same day. Stoddard and others said they viewed concurrent activity as an opportunity to draw additional visitors for food and arts rather than a disrupter, while one commissioner suggested producing small flyers for handout to attendees.
Why it matters: The Festival supports Cathedral City’s creative-economy visibility and provides exhibition and sales opportunities for local artists. Commissioners emphasized outreach to the Perez Art District and cross-promotion with existing Fourth Friday/First Friday events.
Next steps: Staff and commissioners will re-promote the open application, share the accepted-artist list for targeted outreach, and finalize subcommittee and volunteer logistics ahead of the event.
