Council keeps ADU ordinance hearing open to Feb. 25 to incorporate new state bill

The Cathedral City Council opened a public hearing on a zoning ordinance amendment to update Chapter 9.114 (Accessory Dwelling Units) and then voted to keep the hearing open and continue it to the Feb. 25 regular meeting.
Andy Firestein, Community and Economic Development Director, told the council that the draft ordinance was a cleanup to align local ADU regulations with recent state housing legislation but that a newly identified state bill (SB 543) had not been incorporated into the draft the Planning Commission reviewed on Jan. 21. Firestein recommended reopening and continuing the hearing to allow coordination with the city attorney so the item could be considered at the Feb. 25 meeting without republishing the public‑notice materials.
Council Member Lam moved to keep the hearing open; Council Member Gordon seconded. The clerk recorded the motion and announced the vote carried 'All ayes.' No members of the public spoke on this agenda item at the Feb. 11 meeting.
