Stephens County approves brine system purchase and other invoices over $10,000

A staff member said funds for the fire-service testing are budgeted in the chief's council. On the brine system, staff explained the unit produces brine on site — mixing salt and water — and allows crews to apply material days before weather events to achieve more even distribution and longer-lasting road treatment than bulk salt-and-sand mixes. The staff member said the system may reduce overtime and could allow production of brine for municipal partners or neighboring counties in need of material during emergencies. "This gives us the salt, the water, the ability to actually create the brine," a staff member said.
The board discussed options for distributing the brine on county roads, including purchasing an apparatus to mount to trucks or fabricating an in-house solution, and approved the invoices/quotes over $10,000 on a motion and voice vote.
