Commission declares four trucks surplus, transfers a 2010 Silverado and hears staff reports on road work and events

The Covington County Commission voted to declare four older engineer department trucks surplus and to transfer a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado from the maintenance department to the engineer department at no cost.
Engineer (Mister Rawls) described the vehicles proposed for surplus (a 1997 Chevrolet Cheyenne 2500; two 2006 Chevrolet 2500/2500 variants; and a 2006 Ford F-250 Super Duty), saying they had long service lives and some mechanical issues. The commission approved a motion to declare the vehicles surplus and to list them on GovDeals for disposal. The commission also approved the transfer of a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado to the engineer department, which staff said would be put to immediate use.
In staff reports, maintenance and engineering staff described ongoing right-of-way clearing and shoulder work in Antioch and elsewhere, the arrival of new graders (delivery timing to be coordinated with county administration), and broad praise from commissioners for improved roadside safety. County events staff reported a large barrel-racing event at the county arena with more than 300 participants and record runs; commissioners also received a budget-status update that showed first-quarter spending was "on track."
