The Covington County Commission approved a temporary part-time custodial position to cover an employee on medical leave and to prepare for expanded cleaning needs tied to pending health-department lease agreements.
Philip, the county staff member who requested the position, said the role would initially be part time to cover morning and afternoon cleaning shifts and could roll over into a permanent part-time post if additional leases are finalized. County staff said one office is already confirmed to move to the leased space in the next two months and another larger office is negotiating lease terms.
Commissioner (Speaker 4) moved to grant the temporary part-time position for up to six months with a reevaluation at that point and the option to roll into a permanent part-time position at Philip's discretion; the motion passed by voice vote. County counsel clarified that approval does not guarantee continuation if performance or funding does not support it.
