Haslet park survey: 158 resident responses; board asks council to wait for park board feedback

VISTA, the consultant who compiled the Haslet parks survey, told the Park Board, "We had a total of a 158 responses," of which 101 were residents; the survey ran Nov. 17–Dec. 19 and was distributed online and in paper at park locations.
The presentation showed walking trails, nature areas and an indoor recreation center as the top facility priorities among respondents. Board members discussed interpretation of charts and noted the low response rate among the city’s roughly 5,000 residents; one board member suggested distributing a paper copy with the monthly water bill to reach residents who do not use Facebook or the city website.
Staff noted older master plans (2004–2014) remain the last formally adopted plan and that the 2012 master plan could not be located in adoption records. The board moved to ask city council to wait before acting on or adopting the new master plan so the park board can review the survey material and submit formal recommendations. The motion passed.
Board members said they want time to digest VISTA’s binder of raw comments and to return a consolidated recommendation to council that reflects the community responses and maintenance priorities.
Next steps: Board will convene to draft recommendations to the city council and will request council delay action on master-plan decisions until the board’s feedback is provided.
