Resident urges quick safety fixes on Highway 101 during streetscape work

During oral communications a resident urged Encinitas officials to implement short‑term safety measures on the Highway 101 corridor while streetscape construction is underway. The speaker described a one‑lane southbound condition with standing water on the sidewalk area and limited passing room for vehicles, and said crosswalk buttons were not functioning consistently at a key crossing. "There's no safe passage with or without rain at all for pedestrians," the speaker warned, adding that vehicles travel at 40–50 mph through the stretch. Proposed interim solutions included high‑visibility temporary signage, additional lights, blinking or radar speed signs and traffic calming devices. Council members acknowledged the complaint and said staff would contact the speaker and follow up, and the speaker indicated they had provided photos via the city app.
