The proclamation praised coaches, volunteers and local business sponsors for fostering surf culture, ocean stewardship and youth development. "We recognize and celebrate the Santa Gita surf team for its enduring legacy, its commitment to surf culture, ocean stewardship, and community service," Ehlers read as assembled team representatives accepted the plaque and thanked city leaders for the recognition. Team representatives said they appreciated the acknowledgement of volunteers and parents who support athletes. The council posed for photos with the group before moving on to the evening’s agenda.
