St. Johns County to run first county‑sponsored Black History tour; tour sells out

Megan Wright, St. Johns County outreach staff, told the Culture Resource Review Board that the county will run its first county‑sponsored Black History tour on Wednesday, Feb. 25 and that the event filled within 48 hours.
Wright said the tour will visit Hastings first and include speakers such as L. J. Boyd, Pastor Thomas Cave and Ed Singleton (represented at the event by Cherie Orr). The county also plans additional historic walks (Butler Beach and others), a historic bike ride and short filmed series for social media focused on local sites.
"We are launching the first ever county sponsored Black History tour...It's already fully packed out," Wright told the board. She said some tour slots were reserved for Parks and Recreation participants and that the county coordinated free museum access and partner speakers for segments of the route.
Wright described this work as part of broader outreach and content production that will help publicize the Hastings archival project and other historic initiatives the board is reviewing. She encouraged board members to route event information through the county's coordinator, Tyler Smith, the CLG coordinator at the Department of State, if they planned related events.
The announcement prompted no board action beyond congratulatory remarks; staff continues to coordinate visitor logistics and community partnerships.
