Homebase Iowa presenters ask Page County to reengage; highlight $5,000 closing-cost assistance for veterans

"So what we're doing now is we're reengaging ... and I wanna start by apologizing," Stout said, recounting work that began in 2023 and urging renewed attention.
Rick Honeycutt, the local veteran employment representative for IowaWORKS, described the Homebase Iowa designated-employer program and employer requirements such as maintaining a recruiting account on IowaWORKS and completing an onboarding session. He highlighted the state's $5,000 assistance toward closing costs: "One of the things that's attracting to the state of Iowa is $5,000 that helps with their ... closing costs," Honeycutt said, and clarified the assistance is routed through lenders at closing rather than paid directly to veterans.
Both presenters encouraged coordination with local chambers and the county veterans service office. Board members agreed to receive the informational packet and consider next steps; no formal board action was recorded at the meeting other than receiving the presentation and materials.
