Summary
Council approved a revised concept plan for Great Wolf Lodge that includes a proposed six‑story suite tower (24 three‑bedroom suites) with planning-commission conditions requiring the tower match the adjacent 75‑foot water‑park height and added landscaping along Kings Island Drive.
Council members unanimously adopted Ordinance 20 26 dash 1 on a second-reading vote to approve a revised concept planned-unit development for the Great Wolf Lodge property at 2501 Great Wolf Drive. Planner Missus Bacon said the project would add a six‑story suite tower with 24 three‑bedroom suites, intended for larger family groups. Bacon told council the planning commission recommended approval with conditions that the suite tower be the same height as the adjacent water park (75 feet) and that additional landscaping be added along Kings Island Drive to provide screening.
Kevin Eldridge, general manager at Great Wolf Lodge, attended the public hearing and offered to answer council questions. No members of the public offered substantive opposition during the hearing. Council closed the public hearing and proceeded to a roll-call vote; members answered in the affirmative and the ordinance was adopted.
Why it matters: the change adds two stories to the hotel facing Kings Island Drive and increases the property’s lodging capacity. Planning-commission conditions aim to reduce visual impact by aligning heights with the water park and adding plantings along the roadway. Council did not attach additional conditions beyond those recommended by planning commission.
What’s next: staff will work with the applicant to implement the planning-commission conditions and finalize subsequent permitting and site plans before construction proceeds.
