County public-works report: 18 lane miles paved, 34 regraveled, 96 lane miles of maintenance; year-end balance rises

Jefferson County’s public-works director presented the annual road and street report, detailing the county’s pavement and maintenance work and current fund status.
The director reported 18 lane miles of reconstruction/replacement, 34 lane miles of regraveling, and 96 lane miles of chipseal/routine maintenance completed this year. He said an extra $1.7 million carried into the current year; the beginning balance was about $1,852,000 and the ending balance was reported as approximately $2,030,677. Staff emphasized improvements in work tracking, equipment-cost accounting, and painting centerlines to improve nighttime visibility.
Commissioners expressed support for the program and moved to accept the report and sign the required transmittal to the state before the Dec. 31 deadline. Staff noted ongoing graveling work in Mud Lake and equipment training scheduled for the new grader.
