County staff to study whether airplane hangars should be charged solid-waste fees

Jessica, a county staffer, said the county has not placed a solid-waste fee on airplane hangars and that where the city owns the airport the city is charged as a single site. Commissioners discussed whether hangars generate significant waste, how many hangars share a single dumpster, and the county’s reliance on tipping fees for out-of-county waste. Staff noted the county’s solid-waste fees were established in 2014 and that any new fee would require a public hearing and must not exceed the cost to run the department per statute. Jessica said she would research whether individual hangars should be charged and report back.
