JEFFERSON COUNTY, Idaho — Nov. 3, 2025 — County finance staff told the Board of Jefferson County Commissioners that a recent review of L-1/L-2 levy calculations produced corrections that will reduce revenue for several taxing districts.
An unidentified county finance staff member said the corrected levy calculations will reduce Jefferson County's receipts by "$78,497.15." The staff member read corrected levy rates for multiple jurisdictions and said letters and a calendar of compliance dates were sent to each taxing district so they could plan for the change.
Commissioner Hancock, the board's chair, responded to the totals and said, "It's over $250,000," noting the aggregate impact across affected districts.
Why it matters: The corrected levies change how property taxes are distributed among the county and local taxing districts. Commissioners said the corrections stemmed from prior reporting anomalies (including incorrect urban renewal values and noncompliant taxing-district submissions) and emphasized that staff had notified clerks in affected jurisdictions.
What was approved: The board voted to approve the corrected L-1/L-2 levy figures after staff explained the specific rate corrections and the dollar impacts to individual districts. The finance staff provided the following examples of corrections: Jefferson County ($78,497.15 reduction), city of Rigby (noted shortfall), City of Roberts ($6,349 reduction), West Jefferson Fire ($2,584 reduction), Roberts Fire ($5,670 reduction), Roberts Abatement ($2,348), Little Butte Cemetery ($1,258) and Flood Control #5 ($774). Commissioners said the numbers will appear on the December tax rolls and that tax collections will reflect the corrected levies in the following taxing year.
Board action and next steps: The board moved, seconded and approved the corrected levies by roll call. Staff said they had created explanatory letters and a calendar of important dates to help taxing districts comply next year. Commissioners asked staff to make sure the documentation is available to clerks and to prepare for questions from affected districts.
What was not decided: The board did not reverse the corrections and did not adopt any additional policy changes during the meeting; the vote accepted the corrected levy calculations as presented.
