Public Works described a demonstration of a mastic trailer and mastic patch material that can operate in near‑zero temperatures and produce a more durable, cleaner patch compared with cold mix. The presenter explained the trailer’s hydraulics, auger feed and temperature performance down to 0°F, and discussed rental versus purchase options.
Commissioners discussed using the material to improve winter repairs and to reduce repeat patching in subdivisions. A motion to purchase 46,500 pounds of Gap Patch 531 at a total cost of $25,807.50 was moved, seconded and approved by roll call. Staff said they will record the purchase on a county purchase order and pursue any available discounts for larger pallet loads.
