Public Works outlines bridge bids, transfer-station design and winter work in county update

Daryl Johnson, Teton County's Public Works Director, delivered a detailed operations update including bridge projects, transfer-station planning and facility heating work.
Johnson said the county will soon advertise bids to replace the timber structure over Fox Creek on West 6000 South with a prefabricated precast structure, with construction likely in late summer or early fall. "We should be putting that out for bid later this month, early next month," he said, noting dewatering challenges because the creek is spring fed.
Johnson also said the Ramble Mountain Road bridge is an off-system state bridge and staff intend to submit a $2.7 million grant estimate; if awarded, construction could happen in 2029 or 2030. He updated the board that the West 9500 South bridge over Trail Creek is finished and the road reopened around Christmas; paving and wearing surface work will occur in spring.
On the county transfer station, Architects West and Great West Engineering completed a task-one needs assessment and will present findings at the next board meeting before moving into design. Commissioners questioned a 2,300-square-foot crew building footprint and asked the architects to prepare a scaled-down option to discuss at the next meeting.
Johnson also described HVAC improvements and mini-splits being installed at county facilities, and agreed to follow up on a confusing lane-striping/turn-lane issue at a state highway intersection.
Next steps: staff will put the Fox Creek bridge out to bid, submit the off-system bridge grant application, invite architects to present transfer-station designs at an upcoming work session and follow up on striping/traffic-safety concerns.
