County staff to bring draft telecom lease policy back to board for review

County staff presented a draft departmental template that would set conditions of approval for telecommunications equipment on county buildings and property and said the draft will return to the board for formal review.

The draft is intended to provide a uniform approach to leases and installations, including requirements for schematics with proposed designs and clearer access rules to county buildings. Staff said some existing arrangements are governed by individual contracts that grant broad or around‑the‑clock access; the template would standardize access procedures and require coordination through the county’s facilities team rather than unaccompanied vendor access.

A staff speaker described the document as a new departmental policy to be referenced in future contracts and leases, not a change to county code. The board asked staff when the draft would come back; staff said it will be presented in open session for review and approval by the board.

During the item, staff and commissioners briefly discussed an unrelated facilities item — staff noted a small rooftop satellite device was removed as part of repairs to a cracked atrium window.
