The Cohoes City School District technology committee told the board on Jan. 28 that it will submit an updated technology plan to the New York State Education Department and prioritize several near‑term upgrades.
The committee (committee presenter identified as Peter) said it met Jan. 13 and listed priorities including PA system planning for the high school, updates to high‑school science rooms, a phased migration from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (beginning with a small pilot before a full summer transition), device‑management improvements, and Chromebook lifecycle planning.
"We're going to be doing some Wi Fi upgrades through E Rate," the presenter said, referring to the federal five‑year E‑Rate funding cycle that the district plans to use to update access points, switches and other network hardware.
The committee also described plans for a security audit with NERIC to review data‑network security and to integrate access controls with replacement cameras for older, end‑of‑life devices. Metal detectors and related camera hardware have been ordered; staff said vendor shipping and training timelines remain subject to confirmation.
Committee members said they will reconvene in April to finalize budget priorities tied to these projects and continue coordination with architects and building principals on renovation sequencing.
No formal action was taken at the meeting on procurement; staff said they will return with procurement timelines and final cost reports as the SED submission and permit review proceed.
