"They called me and asked if I knew how the letting went…they were going to go ahead and lower our match to about 3% instead of the 20%," Ridge said, explaining why the county could move $815,616.92 back into the cumulative‑bridge fund to support other projects.
Council approved the fund transfer unanimously and later voted to appropriate $603,797 in services for a bridge replacement project near Jackson Creek Middle School that had been awarded last summer but postponed into 2026 to avoid overlapping detours with a city project.
Councilors praised Ridge and her staff for securing state support and moving projects forward while noting the importance of sequencing work to limit disruptions. Both actions passed unanimous roll‑call votes.
What happens next: Ridge said the Rockport Road project is going to letting tomorrow and the restored cumulative‑bridge balance will support upcoming awarded projects. Council asked highway staff to continue timely public notifications on detours and construction timing.
