Summary
Henderson County Schools reported stronger fall end‑of‑course scores after fall retesting; district leaders credited retesting timing, curriculum guides, instructional coaching and cross‑school collaboration for gains, while noting Hendersonville High was excluded from that snapshot.
District leaders told the Henderson County Board of Public Education on Feb. 9 that fall end‑of‑course (EOC) scores improved after a fall retesting window and that the district is encouraged by the results.
Dr. Shannon Marlow presented data showing percentage gains across the four EOC areas captured in the fall window (the presentation excluded Hendersonville High because of its year‑long schedule). Staff said retesting before the semester break likely helped students improve scores and that consistent curriculum guides, instructional coaching, and cross‑school collaboration contributed to stronger performance.
"We were very, very happy with those," Dr. Marlow said when presenting the district’s fall results. Board members asked whether the gains were attributable to the timing of retesting, new standards, or other factors; staff pointed to a combination of retest timing, focused lesson planning, high‑yield strategies, and instructional coach support.
Officials noted that some subject areas, such as English II, have scheduling quirks that affect fall snapshots and that final year‑end scores will incorporate spring testing as well. The board praised teachers and principals and encouraged continued sharing of strong practices across schools.
Next steps: staff will continue to monitor year‑long data (including spring results and schools not included in the fall snapshot) and bring follow‑up reports on how instructional strategies are being scaled across the district.
