The Planning & Development Board unanimously recommended that the Board of County Commissioners approve a special use for a 185‑foot monopole telecommunications tower at the Florida Agricultural Museum.
Staff described the 50×50 lease area and a 20‑foot access easement to Old Kings Road North. The proposed monopole would be a bend‑over monopole (designed to collapse inward) with a 90‑foot fall radius; the plan shows room for up to four carriers. Staff noted wetland delineation on the parcel and recommended a 50‑foot buffer from delineated wetlands, perimeter landscaping at the base of the tower and coloring of the lower portion forest green and the upper portion sky blue to reduce visual prominence per code.
Tower engineers from Tower Engineering Professionals said the pole type is commonly inspected and that fall‑zone design is standard; the museum27s executive director joined the presentation. Staff confirmed the site is more than five miles from the nearest airport and therefore not subject to FAA review for this application.
The board approved the special use unanimously and the recommendation will be forwarded to the County Commission.
