Kankakee County board approves updated environmental health fees after decade-long pause

The Kankakee County Board voted on Feb. 10 to approve updated fees for environmental health services, the board chair said, noting the health department’s fees had not been changed in more than a decade.
The chair framed the change as an update to bring fees current and proposed a future practice of reviewing fee schedules every three years to avoid abrupt increases. Board Member Mister Llewellyn moved the fee update; board discussion included a suggestion to refer fee schedules to the Board of Health for evaluation and to adopt a three-year review cadence.
The fee changes were approved on a roll-call vote with members recorded as voting 'Aye.' The board also noted that when fees are updated in the future, the Board of Health could be asked to review and recommend adjustments.
What’s next: The county will publish the updated fee schedule and officials said they intend to institute regular fee reviews going forward.
