TETON COUNTY, Idaho — During their Oct. 27 meeting, Teton County commissioners approved several public-works actions aimed at infrastructure maintenance and solid-waste management.
Public Works Director Daryl Johnson asked the board to apply for a Local Rural Highway Improvement Program (LRIP) grant to help with Fox Creek/Badger Creek bridge replacement and associated road work; commissioners agreed and authorized application to the state program. Johnson also presented an off‑system bridge application (maximum request $3,000,000) for the Ramble/Grama Mountain Road bridge over Badger Creek; the board approved submitting that federal-aid bridge application.
On solid-waste operations, staff recommended awarding a wood-chipping contract to Arbor Works Organics for $128,200 to grind existing piles; commissioners approved the award and the associated line-item funding. The board also approved a three‑month lease of a Vermeer grinder at $65,000 per month, with 100% of lease payments to be applied to a purchase if the county exercises the option; commissioners said the short-term lease will allow staff to evaluate performance and potential cost savings versus annual contracting.
Commissioners also approved GPS survey equipment purchase and other routine purchases tied to road and bridge work; all votes were carried by voice vote during the meeting.
What’s next: Staff will proceed with grant applications, finalize the vendor contract with Arbor Works, take delivery and begin the grinder lease/demonstration, and provide commissioners with findings from the three‑month trial prior to any purchase decision.
