Johnson also recommended applying to the Local Rural Investment Program (LRIP) for Fox Creek bridge and approach work and noted his office has been successful obtaining $100,000 LRIP awards in past cycles. He said the larger West 5000 West corridor reconstruction has $2.5 million in rural federal funding but is an eight‑to‑ten‑year project under current schedules and design timelines.
The public‑works director reviewed other project needs: addressing contractor liquidated damages on West 5000 North paving (contractor incurring $5,000/day penalties), safety and turn‑lane coordination with Idaho Transportation on Highway 33 access points, and a potential speed‑limit study and LED speed‑feedback signage on Ski Hill Road.
Commissioners indicated broad support for applying to 100% funded bridge programs and for LRIP applications targeted at Fox Creek approaches. Johnson said he would proceed with applications and return with any required project specific approvals.
