City Manager Mike Shannon, speaking for the transit program, told the council the system ran seven buses and logged about 102,000 miles in 2025 and carried roughly 32,000 passenger trips for rides to medical appointments, grocery shopping, work and school. Shannon described the program as a core economic‑development and mobility service for Guymon.
The grant application — described in the meeting as Resolution 26-03 — covers both capital administration and operating funding for the coming federal fiscal year. Council discussion focused on usage statistics and the program’s daily schedule; staff said buses run roughly eight hours a day and that the system provides essential local trips.
A separate motion later in the agenda approved a related letter of intent with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation to secure FY2027 operating funds under the same program.
The authorization allows city staff to proceed with the formal federal application; council members did not attach additional conditions during the meeting. The council moved on to other agenda business after the vote.
