Bluffton held a grand opening of its new Riverside Barn last weekend, and former Bluffton Mayor Lisa Salka spoke about the project during a BCTV segment.
On site at the event, Matt Golden introduced Salka as the former mayor and invited her to reflect on the site's history. Salka said the town worked with Palmetto Bluff to purchase the property and credited council members and town staff, naming Dan Wood and Mark Orlando among those involved. She recalled that, historically, there had been behind-the-scenes discussions about converting the site to condos but that town leaders ultimately pursued public acquisition and phased development. "We just disagreed really on how fast we can build it out," Salka said, summarizing debates over the pace of development.
Salka described the Riverside Barn as a long-recognized local landmark that became a focal point for the town's planning and acquisition efforts. Video and a ribbon-cutting from the grand opening are available on BCTV's YouTube channel, Golden said.
