Beaufort County, City of Beaufort to celebrate Downtown Connection of Spanish Moss Trail Feb. 12

Beaufort County and the City of Beaufort will mark the grand opening of the Downtown Connection segment of the Spanish Moss Trail on Thursday, Feb. 12, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Spanish Moss Trailhead Depot, 2751 Depot Road in Beaufort.
Matt Golden of BCTV said the event is a joint celebration with the Friends of the Spanish Moss Trail and will include guest speakers County Council Chair Alice Howard, Dean Moss, executive director of the Friends of the Spanish Moss Trail, and City of Beaufort Mayor Phil Cromer.
Golden said the new Downtown Connection path was funded by the county's penny sales tax and will link trail users to Beaufort's historic Bay Street waterfront, museums, shops and restaurants. He also noted the county will celebrate receiving a Kids In Park national designation that recognizes improvements to youth access and programming.
