Health department expands car‑seat clinics, cancer screening and prom safety events

Warrick County Health Officer Dr. Curry told the board that a recent car‑seat technician class certified 10 firefighters from Ohio Township and Booneville and that staff have executed MOUs with those fire departments to support a distributed car‑seat program. "We put 10 firefighters through that class who are now certified," Dr. Curry said.
Dr. Curry said the department will apply for a state car‑seat grant that could provide about 16 car seats per month and that car‑seat clinics are planned to coincide with community events, including splash‑pad openings and National Night Out. "That would give us 16, I believe it's 16, car seats a month," Dr. Curry said.
The department also has a cancer‑screening event scheduled for Feb. 28 with radio and social media promotion and a taped midday segment to run the week of Feb. 23 to advertise the service; an Ascension representative will participate. Dr. Curry reported that one county resident has already signed up for a colonoscopy through the event.
Staff described safety programming tied to prom and graduation dates that will include demonstrations by fire departments, EMS and Ascension trauma staff and plans for vehicle‑extrication demonstrations with a local towing contractor and EMT volunteers. Angelina Preble, outreach coordinator, said staff are preparing event materials such as safe‑driving goodie bags for students.
The board received the updates as informational; no formal action was taken.
