During its Nov. 15 meeting the Edinburg City Council issued several proclamations and recognitions.
Parks and Recreation Director Javier Garza presented the history and growth of Edinburg Cares, a community food-and-assistance program that has expanded since 2008 through partnerships with H-E-B and the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District; organizers invited volunteers to a kickoff event on Nov. 22.
The council read and proclaimed November 2025 as Children’s Grief Awareness Month in partnership with the Children's Bereavement Center of the Rio Grande Valley. Noelle, representing the Bereavement Center, described free counseling and peer-support services and invited the public to a candlelight vigil on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in Harlingen and McAllen.
Council also read a proclamation recognizing Javen Hinojosa, an Edinburg native and emergency-room nurse at South Texas Health System Edinburg, as the Image First Heroes First national contest winner and proclaimed Nov. 15, 2025 as a day in his honor. Hinojosa thanked the council and said he has served the Edinburg ER for five years.
These recognitions were presented without objection and included brief remarks from honorees and organizers.
