Somerset, Feb. 3, 2025 — The Somerset Town Council approved a building permit amendment for 4904 Falstone and granted two tree‑removal permits during its regular meeting, and later moved to enter executive session for legal advice on code interpretation.
On 4904 Falstone, the applicants (Jamie Miller and Dudley Folkes) presented a proposal that includes a retaining wall around a walkout basement entrance, installation of a small HVAC unit and placement of a temporary dumpster for interior work. Grant Salar, a registered architect on the project, described the retaining wall as roughly 48 inches tall and said the owner expects work to be completed by June 2025. The council voted to approve the permit and asked staff to ensure any permit conditions (for example, an HVAC sound test) are included.
The council also approved a tree‑removal permit at 5406 Surrey Street for a white oak and a persimmon tree identified as hazardous and approved removal of a 40‑inch tulip poplar at 5405 Greystone Street after town staff presented supporting photos and condition assessments.
Finally, council members moved to enter an executive session under Maryland Code, General Provisions §3‑305(b)(7) to obtain legal advice about code interpretation and enforcement; the motion was seconded on the record.
Next steps: Staff will finalize the issued permits with standard conditions and prepare any documentation required for the upcoming closed session and for the Feb. 24 work‑session agenda.
