Somerset council backs pool composting in principle, asks environment committee for operational plan

"What before you know, from the time we introduce it and we adopt it, it will be useful to have…an operational plan from a composting contractor on how that would actually work in practice," Speaker 4 said.
Members raised contamination risks and education needs. Speaker 2 and the compost crew said contamination had been an issue in recent weeks, and suggested a separate collection and trial period to ensure curbside contamination does not undermine the whole program. Council members agreed the environment committee should lead development of the plan and coordinate with the composting contractor; Speaker 1 directed the committee to return with a recommended phased implementation and suggested trial collection protocols.
No formal adoption occurred at the work session; the council approved forwarding the concept to the environment committee for an operational plan and pilot arrangements before full adoption.
