Town arborist says large Dorset Street tree is dying; council approves removal

Town Arbors staff reported that a large street tree at 4721 Dorset is in significant decline and recommended removal. Dr. Feather, speaking for the town arborist program, said staff found a fungal indicator at the base of the tree and noted the tree has been heavily pruned in recent years and is now failing.
"The tree's dying. Evidence of that is there's a fungus that gets on stressed trees, and it's at the base of the tree," Dr. Feather told the council, and recommended removal. Council members asked a few clarifying questions about location and frequency of similar issues and then moved and seconded a motion to remove the tree.
The motion to remove the tree was made on the record; staff will complete any required follow-up and ensure removal is performed per town arborist protocols.
