Powhatan High School family engagement night draws strong attendance; board highlights student successes

Board members described a successful Powhatan High School family engagement night in which the commons was set up with departments, clubs and student representatives so younger families could preview courses and extracurricular opportunities. Presenters said the event encouraged intentional elective selection and mentorship by older students.
Multiple board members and staff praised the turnout and the energy of eighth graders interacting with clubs and teachers. S5 reported widespread positive feedback across elementary, middle and high school families and noted that students enjoyed acting as club ambassadors.
The board also recognized seniors who announced post‑secondary commitments to trade schools and universities, including multiple commitments to the University of Richmond and Longwood, and athletic commitments in lacrosse and softball. A student speaker reported acceptance to the University of Virginia as an Echols Scholar and said she will participate in the United States Youth Senate program in Washington, D.C.
