Representative Blair presented House Bill 42-99 to name the Indian Hills interchange on I-35 the Toby Keith Interchange.
"House bill 42 99 is looking to rename the interchange at Indian Hills and I 35, the Toby Keith Interchange," Representative Blair said when he introduced the measure and moved for passage.
Members asked for geographic clarification and whether the Keith family had been consulted. Representative Blair said his predecessor had begun the effort and had spoken with the family; "they're ready to move forward with this project," he said. Committee members also clarified the exchange refers to the Indian Hills Bridge over I-35, near local landmarks described in discussion.
After questions and brief discussion the committee took the bill up for a vote. Staff recorded the tally as eight ayes and two nays; the chair declared the bill passed and instructed the sponsor to proceed with next steps.
The bill now proceeds out of committee with the naming language intact; no amendments or implementation details beyond family coordination were recorded during the committee session.
