Committee approves Route 66 centennial license plate bill with emergency clause

"This is a Route 66 Centennial license plate bill to commemorate the upcoming centennial of Mother Road and Oklahoma's place in its history," Representative Hildebrandt said, and said proceeds would support the Oklahoma Route 66 Association for preservation, education and promotion.
Hildebrandt told the committee he had placed an emergency clause in the bill so the plates could be produced in time for the centennial on Nov. 11, 2026. He said production requires 100 commitments and that the 100-signup threshold had already been met. "The actual centennial celebration birthday is 11/11/2026," he said, adding the aim was to have plates in production by summer so they would be available for the anniversary.
Committee members asked about availability and timing; Hildebrandt said the emergency clause was included specifically to speed production. After brief discussion the committee voted; staff recorded the tally as 9 ayes and 0 nays, and the chair declared the bill passed.
The bill now moves from committee to the next stage in the legislative process; committee members did not identify any amendments or additional conditions during the session.
