Commissioner Kellenberg read the resolution into the record, which says Deputy William May served the Walton County Sheriff’s Office for 11 years and that House Bill 987—signed by Governor Ron DeSantis on June 13, 2025 and effective July 1, 2025—authorized naming the roadway in his honor. The board expressed unanimous support for the memorial action and formally adopted the resolution on a voice vote.
Sheriff’s Office representatives and members of Deputy May’s family thanked the board during a brief recognition; commissioners and sheriff’s staff then posed for photographs.
The resolution memorializes Deputy May’s service and asks local agencies and the state to maintain signage and recognition consistent with the law. There was no opposition to the item and no additional conditions attached to the board’s action.
The board treated the item as a ceremonial and formal recognition; the resolution was placed at the top of the agenda so the family and law‑enforcement members could participate in the ceremony before other business resumed.
