The Stevens Point Area Public School District board voted Feb. 9 to adopt Policy 8420, "School Safety and Reporting of Crime Statistics," a new district policy recommended by the district’s policy provider, Neola.
A presenter explained the policy updates align district practice with reporting requirements already in effect: "The requirement of reporting [crime] statistics was already completed. That was a requirement by July 2025," the presenter said. The administration also noted it maintains a district spreadsheet for secondary-site incident reporting to meet deadlines and will conduct annual reviews of safety plans at each school.
The new policy removes inconsistent language, clarifies a schedule for reviewing school safety plans and recognizes that the district already collects and monitors the required secondary-site data. After the presentation, the board moved to adopt the policy as presented; the motion carried.
