Unidentified Speaker 6 (Ben) said Carbon County is a partner in a regional connector-trail grant proposal (a feasibility study and follow-up work to determine ownership and maintenance responsibilities for a trail connecting Jim Thorpe to nearby communities). Ben said the grant would fund feasibility work and next steps rather than construction.
Ben also proposed administrative changes to the county’s plan-review process: raise the fee threshold for an elevated review fee from $6,000 to $10,000 for large plans, and change the packet-submission deadlines to 12 calendar days before a meeting for minor plans (four lots or fewer) and 20 days for large subdivisions (five lots or more). The goal, he said, is to give staff adequate time to perform more thorough reviews and to avoid weekend crunches for reviewers.
Commission members asked about staff availability for questions before meetings; staff said the change was intended to give reviewers breathing room. The commission voted to forward the recommended fee-and-timeline revisions to the county commissioners for approval.
