Carbon County open-space advisors spent a substantial portion of the meeting on outreach strategies to recruit landowners and municipal partners for preservation projects.
"I'll definitely continue to use the video," Speaker 4 said, describing a short promotional video staff produced and recommending it be shared with municipal contacts, the county chamber and bar association. Multiple speakers urged adding a QR code to flyers, rack cards and trail kiosks and suggested distributing materials at county events and a forthcoming 'America 250' kickoff in Jim Thorpe.
Speakers advised a mix of targeted and broad outreach: use GIS to compile lists of forested landowners above a certain acreage for direct mail or postcards, follow up email with phone calls, and consider a pull-up banner and a laptop to play the video at resource tables. Speaker 11 suggested the county offer the video at events such as the chamber's legislative luncheon to reach municipal decision-makers; Speaker 9 recommended producing a single professional rack card for kiosks.
Board members agreed staff should time press releases and media outreach to coincide with program openings and project closings. Speaker 4 said the office intends to issue press releases around relevant milestones, including when Pyron closes.
Next steps: staff will continue outreach, add QR links to flyers and plan participation in county events; the board discussed budgeting for a pull-up banner if funding can be identified.
