City to present Environmental Sustainability Action Plan progress report to council on Oct. 1

The committee received an update on the Environmental Sustainability Action Plan (ESAP) and was asked to approve a staff report to be given at the Oct. 1 council business meeting.
Jenny Liebeck, presenting the ESAP annual progress report, said the city committed to annual reporting when it adopted the plan and that the staff report will review key performance indicators, implementation highlights and priorities for the next year. Liebeck said the full report and action-by-action updates will be published on Friday.
Council members asked for specific information in the forthcoming staff report. Vice President Forsyth requested an update on where the city stands with divesting fossil fuels from its portfolio (referenced in the emergency declaration), and Liebeck confirmed that will be addressed in the Oct. 1 materials. Council Member Stewart asked for an action-by-action status and for staff to consider EV infrastructure planning with the planning and transportation teams; staff agreed and proposed bringing EV infrastructure conversation forward in Q1 of next year as part of integrated planning work.
A councilmember also asked for growth-adjusted energy usage metrics so changes in energy use are reported in the context of population or service growth; staff agreed to include fuller context in the staff report. Council approved scheduling the staff presentation for Oct. 1.
