Redmond’s annual Derby Days drew strong crowds this summer and city events staff highlighted both economic impact and sustainability gains at a Sept. 24 committee meeting.
Nicole McDonald, events and marketing manager, said Derby Days attendance was about 35,000 with 145 volunteers and 151 community booths — the largest number of community booths since before the pandemic. McDonald also said the event increased sponsorship revenue by about $113,000, carnival revenue by $31,000 and booth revenue by $25,000, and noted continued use of reusable “R” cups as a sustainability initiative.
Council members praised volunteers, highlighted the role of youth volunteers from RIPPAC (Redmond Youth Partnership Advisory Committee) and discussed opportunities to add community bike events and strengthen waste-diversion efforts. Staff pointed to event surveys and eventsredmond.gov for community input and said permitting processes and special-event procedures are updated annually based on producer feedback.
The committee received the presentation as information and offered support for continued engagement with volunteers and community partners.
