Council members discussed two policy priorities: accommodating the applicant’s desire to move forward while protecting the city’s ability to plan for efficient infrastructure and access. Several members said approving a larger, coordinated annexation would make master planning and future infrastructure simpler; others noted the city could accelerate review if the applicant refiled with adjacent land included.
Council member Hunter moved to deny the petition so the applicant can refile with additional adjacent acreage to avoid creating residual unincorporated pieces; Council member Holly seconded. The motion carried by recorded vote.
