Parks commission approves Library Advisory Committeeannual report, will forward it to city council

The San Ramon Parks and Community Services Commission voted 6'0 on Feb. 11 to approve and forward the Library Advisory Committee's 2025 annual report to the city council for consideration.

The report, presented by committee chair Cindy Alpert, summarized committee membership and activities, county partnerships, and a set of goals for 2026. Alpert said the committee focused on performance metrics such as door counts, circulation (including digital checkouts), meeting‑room use and program attendance, and recommended shifting benchmarking toward usage measures rather than facility‑based ratios.

"The county was able to provide survey results that can be broken down by library, and that was very helpful," Alpert said, noting the county survey helped the committee understand local patron needs.

Steve (staff liaison) told commissioners the applications for advisory vacancies are live and that interviews are tentatively scheduled the week of March 2–10; he did not provide a final applicant tally. During questions, Vice Chair Levy asked whether the city could run its own patron survey; Alpert and Steve said the county survey can be broken down by branch and that library managers are open to committee input on future questions.

The report credited Measure N funding with restoring additional hours at San Ramon libraries and highlighted the StoryWalk program in Central Park as a seasonal outreach effort. In its 2026 goals, the committee said it will continue to monitor metrics, collaborate with the County Library strategic plan, review StoryWalk selections, and coordinate with the Library Foundation to reduce service overlap.

Vice Chair Levy moved to approve the recommendation to forward the annual report to the council; the motion passed by voice vote 6'0. The motion record in the meeting transcript does not list a named second in clear text.
