Road committee recommends 2026 county road list, seeks legislative fix to mutual-aid restriction

The Bradley County road committee voted to recommend approval of the 2026 Bradley County Road list and placed the recommendation on the Feb. 17 voting-session agenda, Commissioner Mason reported.
Mason said the committee also discussed the Uniform County Highways law, which the committee described as restricting county road departments from assisting other counties during declared emergencies unless there is a written mutual-aid agreement and a full reimbursement plan. "Road superintendent Collins and the committee would like to work with our legislative delegation to narrowly tailor this law to allow assistance during declared states of emergency," Mason said, and the commission referred the matter to the legal/legislative committee for follow-up.
Mason reported TDOT litter grant January activity including figures given in the meeting: state roads 236 miles and city roads 75 miles; the county roads figure in the transcript was unclear. He also reported a total of 11,000 pounds of litter collected and "40 pounds of recycled material." Mason announced that household hazardous waste day was moved from March 21 to Nov. 7, 2026, and that a scheduled tire take-back will be held on March 21 and will be sponsored by the City of Cleveland.
No formal commission vote on the 2026 road list was recorded at this session; the committee's recommendation was referred to the Feb. 17 voting session for formal action and the Uniform County Highways law matter was assigned to the legal/legislative committee.
