Chopin told the council that risk management handled 280 in‑house loss‑fund claims in 2025, up from 160 in 2024. "That could be that we are better documenting our calls," she said, noting the increase may reflect improved reporting rather than a proportional rise in liabilities. She said the office also facilitated 26 workers’ compensation claims in 2025 and coordinated 344 drug‑screening events (pre‑hire, post‑accident and random), compared with 520 tests in 2024.
Chopin described department responsibilities that include safety training (monthly topic distributions), new‑hire safety orientation, DMV checks for authorized drivers, insurance verification for contractors and coordination with public works on tree and right‑of‑way inspections. She said the office is based in the courthouse at 15045 River Road in Hornville and provided a contact number for after‑hours emergency operations.
Council members thanked Chopin and asked no follow‑up questions during the meeting. The presentation highlights areas for continued emphasis on preventive training and documentation as the parish balances claims handling with operational needs.
